Hilloween Home + Yard Decorating Contest


Do you love Halloween? Do you go all-out decorating every year? Have you thought about decorating for Halloween but just haven’t found the motivation? Then we’ve got a contest for you!

Join the Hilloween Yard/Home Decorating Contest! Join in on the fun AND have the opportunity to win cash prizes. Turn your yard, porch, or house into a Halloween masterpiece as part of Hilloween festivities in Mitchell County.

Prizes will include: 

·       A $500 *Spooktacular* Grand Prize

·       A $250 *Boo-tiful* Second Prize 

·       A $100 *Scare-raising* Third Prize

When the time comes, we will share a list of entrants here so you can check them out for yourself!

How do you get involved? Sign up to enter online here. Be sure to register by 5pm on Sunday October 20. Judging will take place on October 21-22, 2024. Entry is free (besides the cost to decorate your house).

Announcement of winners. Winners will be notified by email and/or telephone and announced on Saturday, October 26th at the Hilloween Night Festival in Spruce Pine. Attendance is not required to win. Winners’ names and photos of their decorated homes will be posted on the Hilloween website.

Judging criteria and rules. Entries will be evaluated by an independent panel based on the following criteria:

  1. Creative use of lights, special effects, and other materials,

  2. Originality,

  3. Storyline or theme,

  4. Display and placement of decorations, animated objects, etc and

  5. Overall "spooktacular" effect.

Additional details:

  • Contest is open to all residents (rent or owned) of Mitchell County, NC.

  • Do not cover/interfere with any fire safety equipment or walkways.

  • Keep everything family-friendly, non-discriminatory and non-political.

  • Judging will only include the portion of your yard/house/business that is visible from the street.

  • Participants agree that photos can be posted on the Hilloween website and facebook page and that there will be no compensation for posting.

  • Please note that all official entrants must share their address to be posted on the Hilloween website so that the public can drive by to see what you’ve created!

  • All participants are encouraged to post a photo to social media with the hashtag #HilloweenNC.
